Why Mid-West?

We chose Limerick as the location for our first-ever overseas manufacturing site to accommodate rapid growth and an expanding pipeline of medicines. Its central location allows our employees to choose to live nearby or enjoy an easy commute.

Hi guys, my name is Oisin and I work here in large scale manufacturing in Regeneron as a biotech production specialist and here’s a day in my life, follow me.

At Regeneron we discovered develop, produce like changing medicines for patients. Operations at our site never stop we produce medicines 24/7, 365 days year.

As a Biotech Production Specialist, or BPS as we call it, I work in the large manufacturing department. In large scale manufacturing we optimise, and produce products for the commercial market.

Ok guys, just got to my desk now, before I start my day I’m just going to check my emails and my schedule.

Now that I have my schedule checked and am up to date I can now go down the the process area, gown in and meet my team for the team huddle in the process area.
So let’s go.

Hey guys, I’m going to head into the locker room here. Before I head into the process area I’m going have to change out of these clothes. That’s because our process areas are known as clean rooms, meaning that nothing from the outside environment is allowed inside. That is to keep our medicines safe and pure from microbes and bioburden that might be on the clothes or hair or things like that.

Now that im fully gowned up you can see that I’m ready to go. We’re going to head down to the room down here. This is where I’m going to meet the team, get a team huddle, see how their shift went, see our schedule and hopefully it’ll be a good night.

So you can see we are in capture now. We’re going to go over and have our team huddle. Let’s go

I went the long way to get to where I am now. I did fitness courses 10 years ago. I worked in that industry for about 2-3 years. I decided to go back to college two years ago and do industrial assistance engineering and it’s gotten me where I am today and I’m delighted.

Rights lads, we’re just after our team huddle. So our first task for today is going to be the clean this chromatography column. So what we’re going to do first is we are goinv to go over to the unicorn system. And just ensure there’s no pressure in the skid.
Now that I’ve depressurised the skid, i’m going to head across here with my team and we’re going to set up the CIP cleaning in place and we’re going to set up the manifold and the process with the cleaning.
Right, now that we have these manifold set up, if you want to come this way we are going to go to the unicorn system and set off the cleaning in place. And the CIP has begun.

Well guys, I’ve just after coming down from the process area. I’m just down here at the treaty Stone Café. There are going to be some nice healthy options on the menu today, so I’m going to go in and get some lunch. Let’s go and we get something.

Right guys just after getting to the meeting room here. I’m going to meet my team and we’re going to discuss and brainstorm a CI project. Continuous improvement is a big part of our cultute here in Regeneron.

Everyone at every level is encouraged to make simple, logical improvements for our everyday work.

We’re here now beside our chrome crafts. The chrome crafts here hold our buffer. The buffer is used in the purifurcation of the product. So what I’m going to do now is have a look and see everything is above board. It is also important to have our tough books open with us at all times during each process. That we have our standard operating procedures open and that we follow them and ensure that everything is being done correctly.

What I like about working at Regeneron is the culture. My team are fantastic down on the floor. I like my shift. It’s allowed me to be able to have a greater work life balance. Whether it’s with my girlfriend, or my family and especially playing sport.

Right guys, just out of the process area now, I’m going to head upstairs to the office and just get my last task done for the day, and that’s to review a few batcg sheets so I’m just going to get started now.

The thing that excites me most about science is that it’s an ever growing industry, with an amount of opportunities, and it’s great to be part of an industry that is making such changes to positively impact peoples’ lives.

Looks like I’m finished up here for the day, I have my final task completed. So just before I go home I’m going to log out tidy up my desk and head off to the gym and do a workout for hurling before I go home.

Having facilities like the gym here is unreal, not only for your work, life balance and your mental health, but you have serious options here with different classes that you can take every day. Now I’m going to go out here and try and catch my breath.

Any kids that are thinking about going into science I’d say go for it. It’s an ever-growing industry with an amount of opportunities. And it’s great to be part of an industry that making such changes to positively impact peoples‘ lives.

Hi, I’m Mary McKenna, I’m a QC sample management analyst here at Regeneron And this is my day in the life, come on.

At Regeneron, we discover, develop and produce life-changing medicines for patients. Operations at this site never stop, we’re producing medicine 24 seven, 365 days of the year.

As a QC sample management analyst, I work in the quality control or QC department.

Quality control supports manufacturing by conducting analysis of materials to ensure that quality specifications and standards are met throughout the production process.

So here we are on site, before I go to my desk, I’m going to go and grab a quick coffee. The teas and coffee are free here which is a great perk.

Got my cappuccino, I’m ready head up and get checked in for work.

Now that I’m at my desk, I’m going to check the scheduke and e-emails and see what’s on the to do list.

Now I’m caught up on my emails before I go into the lab I’m going have a quick team huddle and discuss the shift handover.

Hey guys, how are ye?

Finished with the team huddle, it’s time to go to the labs, come on.

Just reached the lab area, before we go in I have to put on my safety glasses, my lab coat and I already have my boots done. We wear personal protective equipment like this to protect ourselves and others. Safety in paramount here at Regeneron.

Ok so, let’s go.

Finally, made it to the QC sample management lab. QC sample management are really the gatekeepers of our quality control department. As a QC sample management analyst we ensure the sample integrity is perfect through a series of checks prior to transferring to the lab areas for testing or required storage. We also ensure the samples are adequately prepared for testing in the labs by splitting the samples into smaller volume.
Come on over guys, and I’ll show you the laminar flow, the lamanar flow hood creates a sterile curtain of air which protects the sample and us. Colleague Emma is xxx the moment and I’ll be taking over from her now.
I’m all good to go, let’s hop on.

I studied bioanalysis and biotechnology in a local college here in Limerick LIT. I chose this course because it aligned with my interest as a child growing up.

Right now I’m going take the parent sample into smaller volumes.
Now this job is done we’re going to get these samples ready for the labs for testing.

Science is such a thriving sector and there’s endless opportunities for everyone. I work in QC sample management, but my degree would allow me to work in other field such as microbiology, biochemistry or manufacturing.

I have a spare half an hour on my lunchtime so I’m going to use the time to get my nails done, but first I'm going to grab a bite in the Treaty Stone.

Regeneron is a great place to work because of the career opportunity it brings. I started as a contractor and progressed into a permanent role and I’m now working as a lead QC analyst. It’s really rewarding to feel like developing both professionally and personally.

We have a real focus on continuous improvement through our SLIM programme. Slim stands for Simple Logical Improvements Matter. One of the improvements our team is looking into is the use of robotics for the sample alloquating process to assist our analysts with some of the manual labour parts of it.

My favourite part of my role is getting to socialise and collaborate across so many different functions. There’s a great sense of satisfaction, when you finish your day you really know you’ve made a difference.

I love working shift. I love the flexibility that the shift alongside a shift premium and this is a fantastic prick. I finish my last day before I go home I’m going to go to the gym and class my coworker if you like technology innovation and cutting science in a career as a key management and is the career for you.
